Saurashtra Vepar Udyog Mahamandal (SVUM) is working for the cause and betterment of Trade & Industries in Saurashtra - Kutch region, the western part of Gujarat. An apex body of the Trade & Industries in Saurashtra Kutch Region of Gujarat. The Saurashtra Vepar Udyog Mahamandal is well recognized in all forums and concerned departments in ministries of Govt. of India & Govt. of Gujarat and keenly take part regularly for various issues in their strategic meetings as an active organization. Saurashtra Vepar Udyog Mahamandal is registered under Bombay public trust act 1950. The main aim of SVUM is to work for and promote Trade & Industrial progress in the Saurashtra - Kutch region of Gujarat.
Activity of SVUM has been started in year 2000. The roots of Saurashtra Vepar Udyog Mahamandal can be found in “Saurashtra Sankal Samiti”. It is an institute of visionary leaders to address various issues of Saurashtra and Kutch region. Role of Samiti was limited to policy advocacy and up to activism and movement against Government’s unfair policy. Changes in Value Added Tax implementation in 2003, Removal of Octroi, Impact Fee, Scarcity of currency coins, Action against malpractice of government officials were among main activities and achievements of Samiti.
Mr. Parag Tejura and other leading industrialists were playing key role in this activism. Meanwhile they felt the need of a parallel constructive institute; which can demonstrate right way of collective growth for society as per thoughts of Mahatma Gandhiji; were Saurashtra Vepar Udyog Mahamandal have vision of integrated development of society with agriculture, coastal area development, infrastructure, good governance etc can achieved by industrial growth of Micro Small and Medium.
As part of constructive work Mr. Parag Tejura has suggested Government of Gujarat to come up with Textile Policy for value addition in cotton which was accepted by Government in 2012 as Gujarat Textile Policy-2012. Similarly SVUM have vision for mass Coconut farming for coastal area development, Cluster development for Rajkot, Engineering & auto parts cluster, Jamnagar - Brass parts cluster, Kutch-Handicraft cluster, Plastic cluster, Morbi-Ceramic cluster. Total more than 19 clusters have been identified. As per new vision and need of changing scenario SVUM hired professional staff and started various trust building activities with local associations and chambers, current activity of SVUM is Help Desks, Advocacy, Training, Knowledge ni Chuski (An Awareness Program), Entrepreneur Counselling, Organizational training, International Business Tours, International B2B Meetings and Vendor Development Programs, International Business Development Consultancy.
Currently main source of income is donations from Patrons, income generating activities like exhibition and training workshop and deficit is provided by Trustees and loan and donations. SVUM wishes financial stability for better performance.
Saurashtra Vepar Udyog Mahamandal aims to promote entrepreneurship and facilitate industrial growth as trade and industry form an integral part for holistic development of the economy. SVUM works as catalyst in process of development through providing platform to MSMEs for networking within the country and overseas for strategic partnerships either technical or commercial; facilitating meeting with bankers, policy-makers, technocrats, international trade agencies, diplomats etc.
